Anthony Garbutt

I am a registered Adult Nurse who has professionally developed through a variety of roles within the operating department during my Nursing career.

Firstly, I worked as a staff nurse developing my fundamental Nursing skills. I then progressed into a specialist first assistant role in cardiothoracic surgery and transplantation. This experience subsequently led to a role within the senior Nursing leadership team within a cardiothoracic operating department; developing and implementing numerous inter-professional projects while in this role.

During my time in practice I studied for an MSc in Practice Development, focusing upon improving patient experience in minimally invasive cardiac surgery. This led onto further work as Nursing lead for thoracic robotic surgery in Newcastle meanwhile studying the impact a human factors approach can have upon enhancing clinical effectiveness and surgical quality.

I am now currently working towards studying for a PhD, in the hope of advancing the shared understanding of human factors upon interprofessional practice.
