Dr Vikki Edmondson

Assistant Professor

Department: Mechanical and Construction Engineering

Vikki is a Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering at Northumbria University, delivering learning on the BEng and MEng Civil Engineering degrees. She is author of the Highway Engineering, Structural Design and Transportation Modules for the programmes.

Currently engaged in research Vikki is interested in monitoring the serviceable condition of our infrastructure legacy and ensuring future resilience against climate change. Maintaining asset reliability, availability and serviceability necessitates holistic research practice embracing environmental, material, remote sensing and transportation expertise. Vikki is researching the use of remote sensing technologies to advance understanding of the asset deterioration.  In a data-rich age, she is also investigating the use of digital infrastructure platforms to facilitate asset operational management.

Prior to joining the University of Northumbria Vikki spent two decades in industry. Creative thinking and the ability to harness innovation to solve bespoke problems are the key skills of a civil engineer.  Vikki has applied these skills to design and deliver projects in a breadth of sectors including: nuclear, rail, highways, water, energy and building structures. Notably, Vikki  has designed infrastructure for the advanced stages of the Manchester Metrolink, the regeneration of Liverpool, and nuclear decommissioning projects.   Such breadth of experience enables Vikki to bring a unique perspective to both her research and teaching.
