John Lucas

Chair of the Board

Until his retirement in 2023, John Lucas was Chief Operating Officer at Tharsus, overseeing the Design, Project Management, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Business Excellence teams.

Before joining Tharsus, John spent more than twenty years as Divisional/Managing Director, President and COO of several businesses in the process engineering and capital goods sector, based in both the UK and USA. He has managed start-ups, supply chain and engineering projects in China, India, Australia, South Africa, South America and Europe.

John has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from the University of Bath and a Post Graduate Fellowship in Systems Management from City University, London. He also spent three years as Senior Industrial Fellow and Director of the Industry Links Unit at the Institute for Manufacturing, University of Cambridge.

Now re-settled in his native North East, he is keen to see NBS play a leading role in the wider mission of the University and to be an important contributor to a thriving region. As well as chairing the Advisory Board, he advises clients on strategy and operations as well as being a trustee of his local community library.
