Read the latest issue of Northumbria University News: Spring 2025 edition

12th March 2025

The Spring 2025 edition of Northumbria University’s newspaper is available to collect on campus or read online now

Packed with the latest news, features and interviews, the newspaper is the perfect way to keep up to date with the exciting developments across the University.

In this issue we share details of Northumbria’s role in a new centre for writing, based in Newcastle, which will develop the next generation of northern writers and publishers. With £5 million recently awarded from the Department of Media, Culture and Sport’s Cultural Development Fund to develop the centre, we explore what it means for students, staff and the local community.

We also share some of the latest research being conducted by Northumbria’s world-leading academics, including the loss of mangrove forests due to climate change, how physiotherapy could improve the mobility of people with Parkinson’s disease, the role of satellites in maintaining energy supplies on Earth, and new energy-efficient cooling technologies that could save lives during severe heatwaves.

The success of our students and graduates is also celebrated, including a prestigious architecture scholarship, a graphic design award and a film made by students which has helped a local foodbank raise awareness of its services.

And in our sports section, we share an inspirational story about a student who has overcome her visual impairment to achieve both sporting success and academic excellence – alongside a very special friend. We also highlight the impressive achievements of our student athletes, who recently topped the men’s table at the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Boxing Championships.
