Guess ‘Which’ university is one of the UK’s best for sport and nightlife?

5th December 2014

Northumbria University, Newcastle has been rated as one of the best universities in the country for sport and nightlife in the latest Which? student survey.

The Which? University Student Survey 2014 analysed the views of more than 12,500 undergraduates across the UK. It asks them to rate the extra-curricular lifestyle on offer at different universities.

Students rated Northumbria highly for sport owing to a wide range of organised sports teams, clubs and facilities open to students all levels. They also rated the University highly for its nightlife, agreeing that there were lots of different types of pubs, clubs and music venues catering to a wide range of tastes nearby.

The findings mark continued success in these areas for Northumbria which was named the most improved university in the UK for sport[1] and rated within the UK top ten for having the best quality of student life[2] earlier this year.

Northumbria will be further enhancing its sport provision over the coming year following the award of a £329,000 grant from Sport England. The grant, which was the third largest awarded to any education provider in the country, will help the University to increase the sports programmes available for students by encouraging them to try new sports and develop skills in those that they already take part in.

Second year Geography student Charlotte Hall, who moved to Northumbria from Nottingham, said “While attending open days, Northumbria was the only place where I felt genuine excitement for the possibility of studying there – and I definitely haven’t been disappointed. The campus really impressed me and its proximity to the city centre was incredible, especially in comparison to any other university I had visited.

“I love living in Newcastle – it’s a fantastic city for any student to live in, with something on offer for everyone. It’s hard to be bored in a place as lively as this and I’ve enjoyed whatever the area has had to offer.  Newcastle really does have everything a student could ever need.”
