Contractors, Consultants and External Partners

Northumbria University are committed to ensuring that the health, safety and welfare of its employees, students, contractors, visitors and members of the public are not adversely affected as a result of the work it undertakes or by the condition of its buildings and estate grounds.

Campus Services are committed to enhancing health and safety across the University and recognises its responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and other relevant standards with regard to ensuring the health, safety and welfare of its employees and all other persons connected with the University, including students, contractors, visitors and members of the public.

Safe working with contractors present a challenge. All persons working with, or involved in the provision of goods and services on behalf of Campus Services must co-operate with the requirements of the University’s Health and Safety Policy and associated arrangements and accept their personal responsibilities for the health, safety and welfare of themselves and others.

A Contractors’ Health and Safety Induction Booklet has been produced to assist all contractors, consultants and external partners working directly for the University, by making you aware of local policies and procedures, health, safety, security and emergency arrangements, potential hazards and risks associated with working on University premises. The information contained within the booklet has been produced to provide you and contractors with key information to ensure everyone works together safely.

External Contractors Risk Assessment / Method Statement Acceptance

We are required to check ALL external Contractors Risk Assessment/Method Statement before any works or service on Campus can be carried out.

Northumbria University requires Risk Assessments & Method Statements to be specific for ALL works carried out and NOT generic.

To support our Contractors, here is a copy of the Risk Assessment & Method Statement Guide. This guide provides a list of relevant points that are typically expected to be contained in the Risk Assessment & Method Statement. This will assist the satisfactory appraisal of our Contractors activity.
