LGBTQ+ Pay Gap

View the 2024 pay gap reporting on LGBTQ+ at Northumbria

There is no statutory duty to analyse or report on LGBTQ+ pay gap, but for the first year we included this in our analysis, in line with our ambition to drive eliminate all pay gaps.

In total 4.3% of staff (101 women and 70 men) report their sexual orientation as being either lesbian, gay, bisexual or another sexual orientation. 32.7% report their sexual orientation as heterosexual. A large majority, 63.1%, have not provided this information. The LGBTQ+ pay gap refers to the difference in average hourly pay between LGBTQ+ employees and heterosexual employees. The overall mean (average) LGBTQ+ pay gap is 4.6% and the median LGBTQ+ pay gap is 6.9%. Both are some way narrower than the gender pay gaps, but the median gap is statistically significant and the mean gap very close to being so, although the high level of non-disclosure means the figures should be treated with caution.
