Career Path: MRO Procurement Leader, Safran Helicopter Engines Asia
Location: Singapore

I have been in the engineering sector for the past 16 years, and have always been on the front line of engineering getting my hands dirty to repair and diagnose military equipment. Before my 20th anniversary of working in engineering, I decided to study logistics and supply chain management to provide me with new knowledge in this field. This approach worked and, having completed my degree, it took me to the next higher stage in my career working at Safran Helicopter Engines Asia.

What are you doing now?Chee Siang Ong

I am the MRO Procurement Leader at Safran Helicopter Engines Asia.

What was it about Northumbria that made you decide to study here?

As the course is 100% assignment based, this allows students to research and read books/journal articles of our preference to do our assignment. Before that having heard and seen the past student reviews of this course were very encouraging and motivating!! Studying at Northumbria was the wise choice for being able to take the next step in my education.

What was it like studying at Northumbria?

I took up the course in BA (Hons) Business with Logistics and Supply Chain Management during the COVID-19 pandemic and it was not easy due to the need to adapt to the new normal in work and study via online over the 18 months of course. However, the lecturers at Northumbria motivated and helped us with the course assignments. They were also helpful replying to any queries we had via email and additional consultation. The course also had a few team projects. It was fun and enriching to learn from different individuals from different industries as I am always open to learning and seeing new perspectives in life!

What was the best thing about your course?

The project work that we achieved working both online and offline during the COVID-19 restrictions to ensure that we achieved the grades that we wanted!

What did you enjoy most about your time at Northumbria University?

The friendship and fellowship with various lecturers who taught us valuable life lessons and coursework during face-to-face meetups and online discussions.

What advice would you give somebody who is considering studying at Northumbria?

Be DARING to take the first step and take up the challenge. Be OPEN to the people you will be meeting during the course of the work, they will change you and eventually help you in your future!!!

How would you describe your time at Northumbria in three words?

Fruitful, fun and fulfilling.
