London Start It Up Workshops

Start growing your enterprise, employability and business skills with Northumbria’s Online Start It Up workshop series, designed to help become more employable and if you have a business idea, you will be ready to take your idea from concept to a trading business.  

Whether you’re wanting to develop enterprise and employability skills or researching an idea or are in the early stage of business venture, this online workshop series is tailored to help ensure you’ve got every business-base covered and put you in a great position to be make your venture a success. You will gain enterprise and employability skills to ensure you stand out of the crowd when researching graduate roles. 

You may be a current student or recent graduate ready to start-up and be your own boss or want to gain enterprise skills, whatever your reason, apply for your place on this programme.   

We are looking for individuals who are ready to develop key skills or are considering self-employment. If you are accepted onto the workshop series we'll expect you to attend the majority of workshops and also engage in support from the Student and Graduate Enterprise team, by attending more events or business/freelancing start up.

This series covers key topics each week delivered by external advisers who are experts in their fields. The Student and Graduate Enterprise team have significant experience in skill development, helping start ups and have helped several of Northumbria’s student and graduate businesses to start and grow.  

If you're are unable to commit to the workshop series, please contact the Student and Graduate Enterprise team to discuss the other types of support and events available to you. You might be interested in a 1-2-1 discussion about your idea. 

No matter your area of study, we're looking for individuals who are wanting to immerse themselves into the world of enterprise and skill development. The most important thing is that you're serious about skill development.

If networking feels intimidating, Charlotte will guide you through its significance and offer practical advice. By the end, you'll feel more confident in attending networking events and effectively presenting both yourself and your business. 

 
Finding Your Why  4 March 2025  1pm-2pm

Join Sam Clegg, Director of Highfly Ventures and Associate Lecturer at Northumbria University, as he helps you uncover your "why." What drives your passion, and how can you turn it into a business? Explore the vision and mission behind your business and learn how understanding these elements will empower you to set meaningful goals to put you on your way to success.  

 
Perfect Your Pitch 11 March 2025  1pm-2pm

Charlotte is back to help you craft your pitch! In this workshop, she will guide you through a structured approach to creating your pitch. Whether you're preparing to speak to investors or engaging with potential customers or suppliers, this session will provide valuable insights to strengthen your presentation. 

 
Brand Scape 18 March 2025  1pm-2pm

With over 25 years of marketing experience, John McRae owner of Stand-up Marketing, will help you build your brand. Forget the traditional USP and discover the power of USB! 

 
Getting the Price You Want 25 March 2025  1pm-2pm

John is back with a session focused on achieving the price you desire. This workshop is all about finding ways to maximize your profit and return on any product or service you're offering in the marketplace. 

 
Digital Footprint 2 April 2025  1pm-2pm

Sam is back with an interactive workshop designed around you! This session will help you explore your online presence, identify your target audience, and develop strategies to reach them. By the end of the workshop, you'll have a clear digital action plan to move forward with. 

 
Nailing down your customers 29 April 2025  1pm-2pm

Join Helena Hill, owner of 49 Digital and expert in user and customer experience. Helena will guide you in the creation of a Voice of Customer (VoC) model for your business. By gaining a deeper understanding of your customers, you'll be able to design a smooth customer journey that offers a memorable experience, encouraging repeat engagement and loyalty. 

 
Legal 6 May 2025  1pm-2pm

Join Riz Shahid, Tech and Commercial Lawyer at Square One Law. Riz will walk you through the legal aspects of running a business. This important workshop is a must-attend to ensure your business is compliant and legally sound.
