Mr Renan Gautier

LLB (Hons), Bar Vocational Course & LLM in Advanced Legal Practice

Where are you from?

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

What are your Law School highlights?

The main highlight for me is being able to select a module and realising precisely in which area I would like to specialise in the future. The breadth of options available simply allows me to dip my toe in many waters and find out which area of law I am passionate about. Also, it was the great balance of academic, volunteer/pro-bono, sporting and social activities that make my student life at the Law School well occupied, busy and rewarding.

Why did you choose Northumbria University?

The good reputation of Northumbria University Law School in Malaysia was the reassuring factor. Also, as the University is situated in Newcastle City Centre, it ticked all the right boxes for me, as I wanted to study and to live in a city where there was plenty going on.

What is your impression of the Law School community, your fellow law students and the facilities at the School?

The staff of the Law School are very much organised and constantly interact with the students (to keep the student updated of any upcoming events and activities). They are also very interested to hear the opinions of the students and do genuinely take interest in our needs and concerns. As an international institution, the Law School attracts students from many countries - giving me an opportunity to make friends with people from various countries with very different culture and background. Also, the facilities at the Law School are all up to date, boasting from its modern lecture theatres, law library and courtrooms to its IT wireless facilities.

Which Law School activity or experience has been the most meaningful to you?

I personally adore the opportunity to being able to utilise the courtrooms in the Law School to sharpen my advocacy skills.

What do you intend to do in the future?

Currently, I am a senior practising advocate and solicitor in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (majoring in corporate and commercial law).
