The Chloe and Liam Together Forever Trust Scholarship 26/27
The University is proud to work in partnership with the Chloe and Liam Together Forever Trust for September 2026 entry. This scholarship will award one student who chooses to study on MSc Sport Performance and Analysis £2,000 during their Postgraduate degree. The money can be used to enhance the overall learning experience.

The Chloe & Liam Together Forever Trust raises money from fundraising events and gives grants to support young people to follow their dreams, in the fields of Sport & Performance, by assisting with costs for auditions, exams, coaching qualifications, equipment or travel expenses.
The Chloe and Liam Together Forever’ trust’s mission statement is, ”to inspire and support others to achieve and reach their full potential through the love of sport and performance”.
On May 22, the world was horrified by a senseless attack on Manchester arena, just minutes after Ariana Grande had finished her show, and fans were leaving the arena to head home. 22 people lost their lives that evening and over 500 more were injured.
Among those that tragically lost their lives were 17-year-old Chloe Rutherford and her 19-year-old boyfriend Liam Curry from South Shields.
It takes amazing strength and courage to in the face of a senseless tragedy to be able to want help others but Chloe and Liam’s loved ones were determined to do something positive in their memories, so they created the The Chloe and Liam Together Forever Trust.
To be eligible you must:
- Be a UK/Home applicant with 'Home' fee status - This includes students domiciled in Jersey, Guernsey, The Channel Islands, Ireland and Isle of Man
- Have a permanent residence in the North East of England. Please click here for eligible counties
- Apply to study on the below eligible course commencing September 2026 at the Newcastle Upon Tyne campus
- Meet the terms and conditions and accept your offer
- Be a self-funded student - ie; not have fees which are paid in full or in part through a sponsorship arrangement (employer funded)
Eligible Course
- The student selected for The Chloe and Liam Together Forever Trust Scholarship will not be eligible for other Northumbria Scholarships
- If you are selected and are a Northumbria Alumni, you will also be eligible for the Alumni Discount
- The scholarship is awarded as a cash sum
- The successful student will receive a £2,000 cash payment on the one year Sport Performance and Analysis MSc at the Newcastle Upon Tyne Campus in September 2026
- The cash award will be paid as: 25% in November 2026, 25% in February 2027, and 50% in May 2027
- The successful student will be required to send a thank you letter and progress updates to the donor
- If you do not provide a thank you letter and progress updates to the donor, the scholarship may be withdrawn
- If you defer your place, the scholarship offer will be withdrawn
- If you decide to leave your course after a scholarship payment has been made, the University will not make efforts to reclaim the amount
- Northumbria reserves the right to withdraw this scheme at any point
- The University's decision is final and cannot be challenged; there is no right of appeal
- There is a competitive selection process for this scholarship scheme. Applicants need to apply via online written application. In no more than 3000 characters (500 words); 'What do you believe are the benefits of regular sport and physical activity?’ - applications will be considered on the strength of response
- The successful applicants will be notified once the evaluation panel has met, by no later than Friday 02 October 2026
