We will focus on improving your substantive knowledge in order to inform and develop a wide range of educational sectors.This will include school, further and higher education.
You will use research and critical enquiry to further extend, develop and enhance your ability to evaluate and judge the underlying assumptions surrounding educational policy and practice.
You will develop a critical understanding of the inter-relationships between research, policy and practice and their manifestations in different settings and contexts.
You will develop skills in collaborative working, discipline-specific creativity and project management. You will be encouraged to examine, compare and contrast different world views. You will examine key education theories and concepts, and enrich your understanding of these through critical discussion with your peers, colleagues and lecturers.
Throughout the course you will be supported by your guidance tutor, the programme leader, and your module tutors. You will receive extra support and supervision during your dissertation project, when we will match you with a tutor who specialises in your area of interest. This will allow you to draw on their relevant knowledge and expertise.
The Education Leadership in Learning MA will develop your critical reflective abilities, with a view of empowering you to become entrepreneurial in relation to your ongoing career within your chosen sector. This may be further education, higher education, schools or training organisations.
Designed to cater for a wide range of professionals in education, this programme will offer you a great launch pad for the next step in your career. The flexibility to choose from such a wide variety of modules mean you can prepare for the exact role you want.

We will encourage you to become an independent learner, critically reflecting on your own experience and applying what you have learnt to your own organisation.
Through lectures, seminars, and group discussion you will develop a critical understanding of the relationships between research, policy and practice and their applications to different settings.
You will be summatively assessed through a dissertation. All tasks will be clearly explained in advance and assessment criteria, grade descriptors and marking schemes will be available for the dissertation and this will be thoroughly discussed in class.

This helps us to share learning materials with you in a flexible way and allows you to revisit learning materials in your own time, and enables you to have online discussions with your fellow students to develop ideas.

English Language requirements:
International applicants are required to have a minimum overall IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 with 5.5 in each component (or approved equivalent*). *The university accepts a large number of UK and International Qualifications in place of IELTS. You can find details of acceptable tests and the required grades you will need in our English Language section.

Full time Courses are primarily delivered via on-campus face to face learning but could include elements of online learning. Most courses run as planned and as promoted on our website and via our marketing materials, but if there are any substantial changes (as determined by the Competition and Markets Authority) to a course or there is the potential that course may be withdrawn, we will notify all affected applicants as soon as possible with advice and guidance regarding their options.
