This module employs a dynamic blend of interactive lectures, seminars, practice-based learning, and self-directed study to facilitate apprentices' transition into professional practice, emphasising the importance of lifelong learning and ongoing professional development. Through a diverse array of learning modalities including short lectures, small group seminars, skills days, and directed study, apprentices acquire an understanding of social work principles while honing their practical skills. Participation in simulated practice scenarios, feedback sessions, reflection exercises, and staff modelling fosters the development of communication and interpersonal skills essential for effective social work. Additionally, the utilisation of the Blackboard e-learning portal offers convenient access to supplementary resources and materials, further enhancing the learning experience. This multifaceted approach ensures a well-rounded educational journey, empowering apprentices with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to excel in their future social work undertakings.

Formative Assessment
The apprentice will complete classroom-based focused conversations with apprentice peers which will be reviewed during a seminar. Feedback will be given by the apprentice’s tutor and peers. The Apprentice will complete a series of structured tasks prior to attending sessions, which will be reviewed during the teaching sessions. The apprentice’s tutor and peers will provide feedback on these tasks to help the apprentice prepare for the summative assessment.

Summative assessment
The summative assessment is in two parts, and both must be passed to successfully complete the module. The summative interview must be passed before commencing any placement days:

1. The apprentice will complete a 10-minute simulated social work interview, . (Marked Pass/Fail)

2. A series of structured written tasks (1,000 words, marked Pass/Fail)

Feedback will be provided by the academic team via the electronic submission system (Blackboard/Turnitin) in line with department and university policy.
