SP4015 - Football Accreditation Preparation

What will I learn on this module?

In this module you will consider key industry knowledge and practices aligned with community and professional football coaching. You will be widely introduced to The FA’s 4 corner module (i.e., Technical/Tactical, Physical, Sociological, Psychological) and encouraged to explore how this model supports player development, coach delivery and coach development. Crucially, this module will also seek to develop your ‘on the pitch’ coaching practice. Notionally, and broadly, you will consider:

• Understanding players and their game
• Helping players learn football through practice
• Helping players learn football through matchday

This module will enhance your preparation for future football coaching opportunities/qualifications and support your continued engagement with experiential learning opportunities throughout your programme of study.

How will I learn on this module?

The taught content will be delivered and provided in a variety of formats, and you will be able to access materials on the eLP. This module will be delivered using a combination of lectures, seminar sessions, workshops and practical sessions. Direct and independent study will be strongly encouraged through the provision of reading lists, workshop tasks, preparation of coaching sessions and observations of coaches in action. The aim of the practical sessions will be for you to develop key effective practice skills and coaching skills by consolidating key theoretical and applied principles taught to practice contexts. At this level you will be required to coach your peers during practical sessions, leading to a mix between group peer and self-led external coaching at level 5. Taught content involves high involvement from both academic staff and students. Material introduced in the lecture practical, seminar and practical sessions will assist you in the completion of the assessment tasks. There will be the opportunity to work in smaller groups with discipline specific members of staff who will facilitate context driven discussion and learning. You will also be set independent tasks informed by key literature to complete outside of class time to further develop your understanding of the taught content.

How will I be supported academically on this module?

Module information, assessment requirements and expectations, and important module announcements will be made through the eLP. Material to support your learning will be uploaded in advance of sessions. You will be supported by a team of academic experts and/or The FA partners during scheduled teaching. You will engage in a rich dialogue with identified staff (and fellow students) in timetabled sessions and receive regular feedback on ongoing work giving you the opportunity to respond directly as part of the process. This will allow for an authentic dialogical learning process. Furthermore, these staff will be available to support you during your development of your portfolio of evidence.
Tutorial sessions will also be built into the module allowing additional reflection time throughout the module.
