What will I learn on this module?
You will learn about typical management practice and activity necessary during the delivery stages of construction engineering projects. There is a strong emphasis on the impact that effective project management can have during the actual construction of a project. Topics that will be covered include construction engineering project management theory, project control methods, appreciation of the impact that delays and disruption have upon project success and awareness of available project recovery strategies.
How will I learn on this module?
You will learn through a combination of lectures, technologically- enhanced learning (TEL), and group seminars. Your learning will also be facilitated through a combination of tutor guided independent learning (TGIL) activities (e.g., directed reading), and student identified independent learning activities. The use of past or available real-life construction case studies may also be used to enhance learning activities. Lectures and seminars will be used to support your learning, and may be delivered via a combination of ‘live’ sessions and digitally pre-recorded sessions/webcasts.
How will I be supported academically on this module?
Support will include academic staff feedback during seminars. There will be regular announcements issued on the University’s virtual learning environment (VLE) that will direct you to suitable learning opportunities and activities that will enhance your understanding, knowledge and intellectual development through a combination of research-rich learning and technologically-enhanced learning.
What will I be expected to read on this module?
All modules at Northumbria include a range of reading materials that students are expected to engage with. Online reading lists (provided after enrolment) give you access to your reading material for your modules. The Library works in partnership with your module tutors to ensure you have access to the material that you need.

Critically analyse and explain in detail, existing and new theories and processes involved across construction sector-, organisation-, and project-, levels.

Demonstrate appreciation of how Building Information Modelling (BIM) is used as a process to improve the delivery of construction projects.
Communicate effectively to diverse audiences utilising appropriate formats and media.

Apply disciplinary knowledge to complex problems of practice and identify appropriate solutions.
Think independently, understand and justify your own opinions, and recognise the need to challenge your own thinking and the thinking of others.
How will I be assessed?
Formative Assessment
Formative assessment designed using principles of authentic, and problem-based learning, will be used to allow you to build confidence and highlight any misunderstandings you may have of the theoretical and professional concepts presented in the module. Additional formative feedback shall be delivered to you verbally by academic staff during formally scheduled teaching and individual or group activity-based sessions to help you learn and prepare you for the submission of your summative assessment.
Summative Assessment
Summative assessment will be by two pieces of assessment, group debates and coursework that together will assess your ability to satisfy all the module learning outcomes. Its design will employ the principles of authentic, and problem-based learning. You will use the University’s VLE to submit your coursework digitally and will receive your feedback using appropriate digital feedback tools.

Module abstract
This module focuses upon the management and control of construction projects during the execution of the works. Key content in ‘Construction Project Management and BIM 2’ includes construction project management theory, project control methods, appreciation of the impact that delays and disruption have upon project success, and awareness of available project recovery strategies. The module also introduces process improvement strategies such as Lean Construction and Digital Construction in addition to Building Information Modelling (BIM) and identifies how these can increase value, reduce waste and improve the planning and control of construction projects. Learning achieved will equip you with knowledge and skills valued by employers that will enable you to help deliver effective construction projects in future professional practice. The module has been designed to satisfy several of the programme learning outcomes as related to academic and technical knowledge, employability, commercial practice, critical thinking, problem-solving innovation and leadership.
