The emphasis is on the holistic needs of the patient and their family/carers and you will consider contemporary issues in cancer care for the multi-professional team.

During the module you will be encouraged to critically examine the current treatment modalities, interventions and support networks available for this group of people. Topics will include therapeutics, diagnostics and multimodal therapy for all of the common cancers as well as the social and behavioural factors which influences the aetiology of cancer, rehabilitation and living with cancer.

The module has the patient and carers as a central focus therefore the practitioner’s role in the management of patients and their families from a psycho-social perspective will be implicit throughout. The prevention detection and management of cancer will be analysed and debated within the context of the UK healthcare system and current Government policy drivers, professional guidelines and pathways of care will be consulted.

You will learn how to appraise current contemporary evidence underpinning the management of cancer in order to appreciate current standards of cancer provision with specific relevance for your clinical practice.
