Career Path: Fashion Teaching Fellow & Module Leader, Winchester School of Art in University of Southampton/Dalian Polytechnic University
Location: Hong Kong, China

Having originally studied for my BA (Hons) Fashion at the School of Design in 1989, I later returned to complete a postgraduate degree in MA Design Management in 2008. Upon graduation I went on to work as a freelance Design Consultant, alongside teaching Fashion. I am now the Fashion Teaching Fellow and Module Leader of Winchester School of Art, UK and Dalian Polytechnic University, China.

What are you doing now?

I am Fashion Teaching Fellow and Module Leader of Winchester School of Art and Dalian Polytechnic University. I am also practising in fashion design and have been appointed as Advisory Council Member, Fashion Business and Design, Lindenwood University, USA 2020-2022, and Member of International Fashion Art Network (IFAN), China 2021-2025.

What was it about Northumbria that made you decide to study here?

It was a nice place, good location and the people are friendly in Newcastle.

What was it like studying at Northumbria?

It was good to have a mix of lectures, live projects and team building projects. We also attended academic conferences.

What impressed you most about our academic staff?

They were friendly, professional and knowledgeable.

How connected was your course with industry?

Yes, I undertook internships and live projects provided by the university - the experience was excellent.

How did studying at Northumbria help you achieve your career goals/give your career an edge?

Knowing more people and building up stronger connections helped me most in my career.

What was the best thing about your course?

The live project kept me in the loop regarding what was going on at the time in the design industries.

Which skills/knowledge did you learn on your course that you use most now throughout your career?

Team building and management.

How would you describe yourself in three words after you graduated at Northumbria?

Professional, daring and knowledgeable.

What did you enjoy most about your time at Northumbria University?

Getting to know people from different countries.

What advice would you give somebody who is thinking of studying at Northumbria?

Northumbria is a good choice with the city having a reasonable cost of living and a lot of treasures to be uncovered in your studies at the University when studying.
