Why volunteer with Converge?Volunteer

Northumbria Students play an integral role in the design and delivery of the courses and opportunities we offer here at Converge Northumbria.

As a Converge volunteer, you will work closely with the Converge team to undertake training, and design and facilitate courses in your chosen field/ subject.

We require student volunteers to aid the day-to-day running of our courses. Courses are short and accessible, primarily within Arts and Design, and are delivered by Northumbria Undergraduate and Postgraduate students, alongside support from academic tutors, Converge members of staff and industry professionals.

The focus of the courses is on subject knowledge, not mental health. Courses include drama and performance, fashion, fashion publication, creative print, fine art, photography, movement, dance and script writing.

What kind of volunteering can I do?

  • Course Designer and Facilitator: Aid the converge team in creating a course based on your interest/subject knowledge
  • Converge Student: Take part in Converge courses as a student. We understand that university students also need support with their own mental health sometimes.
  • Student in Residence: Become a student in residence for your placement year, working closely with the Converge team looking at all different aspects of the organisation, what we do, and how you can bring in your skills!

Most importantly, we are interested in YOU! If you feel you have the desire to join us as a volunteer or would like to receive some more information, don't hesitate to get in touch with us.

What can I expect to gain?

  • Receive volunteer training e.g. covering basic mental health awareness, safeguarding, good practice and facilitation styles.
  • The opportunity to design and deliver your own courses.
  • Enhance your CV and employability.
  • Experience of working with the local community.
  • Experience working with industry professionals.
  • Mentored by Converge at Northumbria staff.
  • Connect with local cultural venues.
  • Links with statutory and voluntary organisations.
  • Opportunity to connect to a professional network.
