Entrance of the Gallery North buildingGallery North, as part of the Department of Arts at Northumbria University, Newcastle hosts a year-round public programme. The gallery supports projects that represent Department and University wide staff research, teaching and learning, student experience, cultural partnerships, communities and contemporary practice. This Autumn marks the Gallery’s first fully programmed season of exhibitions since its refurbishment in Spring 2022.

Positioned across academic research and critical practices, Gallery North will deliver an interdisciplinary programme of activities including, exhibitions, talks, seminars, workshops, residencies and fellowships, publications, education programmes and doctoral research. As well as supporting Departmental-led student exhibitions and events, Gallery North will support and enhance our curriculum and create opportunities for student involvement with the Gallery at every level.

Collectively and through the five distinct shows, this season’s Gallery North programme will focus on the constructions that manifest in creative process and everyday society. Reflecting our cultures, communities, and environments the exhibitions expose the materiality and geopolitics of the digital economy, challenge the binds of gender and affirm feminist practices, and reveal the use of bricolage, assemblage and the varying processes of collage in the facility of creative practice.
