Our Alumni - Work For Us
What will I learn on this module?
In Project Organisation and Information Management, you will explore leadership issues, critically reviewing a range of models and practices with particular emphasis on the leader as a communicator and negotiator. You will be introduced to a variety of approaches to organisational analysis; thus, enabling you to challenge and critique, both organisational practice, and the theories, models, and frameworks underpinning management, business, and organisation. Mainstream views of organisational methods and learning are introduced, with progression to exploring alternative ways of ‘seeing’ organisation and organising. This approach will enable you to develop your critical thinking and draws on contemporary research to explore alternative ways of organising. You will also explore the value of the information system within the organisations. Specifically, you will consider the evaluation and application of appropriate strategies for the management of information systems at intra- and inter-organisational levels, and how they might affect the use of Information Modelling applications. You will identify the various types of knowledge in organisations and analyse the management of that knowledge and information flows throughout the different project life-cycle stages. An important aspect of the module is the identification and evaluation of standards and procedures underlying the exchange of project information, including processes connected with supply chain integration, electronic commerce and mobile commerce on the project environment. You will also evaluate the beneficial and detrimental effects of using real-time network tools for project collaboration.
How will I learn on this module?
This module will allow you to develop the relevant subject knowledge. You will learn through a combination of engaging, interactive methodologies and teaching approaches, including lectures, seminars, academic staff-guided independent learning, independent student learning, and by engagement in technologically-enhanced learning (TEL). A directed study of textbooks will support formally scheduled teaching, PSRB reports and scholarly journal articles (hard copy or electronic), critical evaluation of case studies, problem-based learning, simulation and reflection exercises. Additional formally scheduled teaching approaches will include video presentations, peer group discussions and presentations. The module will also use an inter-disciplinary approach to the development of the syllabus and teaching resources.
How will I be supported academically on this module?
Academic staff will provide guidance, 1-2-1 support (where possible), or use interactive asynchronous online peer support forums on the University’s virtual learning environment (VLE) to support you in your studies. Academic staff will use guided independent learning activities, e.g., directed reading. You will supplement this structured support with independent learning activities.
What will I be expected to read on this module?
All modules at Northumbria include a range of reading materials that students are expected to engage with. Online reading lists (provided after enrolment) give you access to your reading material for your modules. The Library works in partnership with your module tutors to ensure you have access to the material that you need.
What will I be expected to achieve?
Knowledge & Understanding:
1. You will develop comprehensive understanding of information and organisational needs to achieve stakeholder success within project organisations.
2. You will realise strategic importance of knowledge and organisational learning at different levels (e.g. firm level; collective level and individual level etc).
Intellectual / Professional skills & abilities:
3. You will aquire skills in how to organise and implement support information systems in project settings.
4. You will develop the ability to embed adopted knowledge management strategies to host and project organisations.
Personal Values Attributes (Global / Cultural awareness, Ethics, Curiosity) (PVA):
5. You will embrace inquisitive thinking, and professional reflexivity.
How will I be assessed?
Formative Assessment
Academic staff on the module will assess you in a formative manner to help build your confidence and highlight any misunderstandings you may have of the theoretical and professional concepts presented in the module. Your formative feedback will be given to you either verbally by academic staff on the module during formally-scheduled teaching sessions or digitally using the University’s VLE. Your formative feedback aims to help you learn and prepare for the submission of your summative assessment.
Summative Assessment
Academic staff on the module will assess you in a summative manner by one piece of coursework. Academic staff on the module will use the coursework to evaluate your ability to satisfy all the module’s learning outcomes. You will use the University’s VLE to submit your coursework. Academic staff on the module will use digital feedback tools to issue your feedback.

Module abstract
Project Organisation and Information Management is about the organisational and coordinational approaches that enable information exchanges within inter-organisational delivery systems. Key questions include what is knowledge and learning?, why are these concepts important for organisations?, and what are the assumptions that underpin them? These topics will be addressed through research-rich education, and you will have the opportunity to explore these issues, questions, and answers with academic members of staff and peers. You will have a chance to engage with technology-enhanced learning using resources that facilitate virtual peer discussion and collaboration.
