5 Careers You Can Do with an online Digital Marketing Masters

The world continues to digitalise at a rapid rate. With the number of smartphones surpassing 3.8 billion and 3.5 billion searches being processed on Google daily, digitalisation is bringing the world closer every day. Despite this increase, 72% of large British companies and nearly half of SMEs believe that proven skills are missing from the workforce. 

With this in mind, digital marketing skills are sorely needed. Through a Digital Marketing Masters, you will develop your understanding of the core principles of digital marketing, enabling you to build a career in marketing or digital marketing management.  

Below we explore some of the exciting careers available to Digital Marketing MSc graduates after completing our distance learning course.

Marketing Executive/Digital Marketing Manager 

The obvious career that comes to mind after completing a Digital Marketing MSc, is naturally a Digital Marketer. But what is digital marketing and what do digital marketers do? Digital Marketing relates to how businesses and organisations market a product or service through the internet or other forms of digital communication.  

Digital marketing is one of the most exciting areas in marketing. An agile and innovative industry, digital marketing now covers everything from viral TikTok videos, thought leadership on LinkedIn as well as Snapchat and Reddit content. When you choose a career in digital marketing, you’re entering an ever-evolving, versatile industry with plenty of opportunities for creativity and growth. 

In terms of salary, at an entry level, Digital Marketing roles can pay between £23,000 to £32,000 on average, with Heads of Digital Marketing potentially earning between £60,000 and £80,000. 

Paid Search Executive/Paid Search Manager 

Businesses need both organic and paid search marketing campaigns to boost their visibility. Using search engines such as Google or Bing, Paid Search Managers have oversight over driving growth through paid search, SEO and affiliate channels, developing strategy and analysis of ad performance. 

If you’re someone who is passionate about results and analytically minded with a creative edge, becoming a Paid Search Manager might be the right fit for you. You will use your creativity to come up with exciting and compelling copy underneath a tight format (often with very limiting character constraints!) but will also have to analyse ad performance to improve your campaign. Plus, you’ll operating in a dynamic and fast-moving industry, so will have to keep up with trends and be adaptable. 

Paid search is a specialist and sought-after skill with starting salaries for PPC Account Executives ranging from £18,000 and £25,000 and experienced specialists and Paid Search Managers earning up to £50,000. 

Social Media Executive/Social Media Manager 

If you’re someone who is passionate about the social media trends and the latest digital technologies, becoming a Social Media Executive/Manager might be the right path for you. 

Social Media Managers are accountable for the social media strategy of an organisation. They work to drive visibility and customer and client engagement, by boosting the organisation's online presence and improving performance by analysing data.  

In this role, you’ll be responsible for developing innovative social media strategies and managing accounts across channels such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and others. In more recent times, this has required managers to form relationships with influencers or think of innovative campaigns that have the potential of going viral. 

An assistant or junior social media manager can earn between £19,000 and £25,000 as a starting salary. Experienced social media managers can earn between £30,000 and £40,000 with substantial experience increasing the salary to £60,000 and beyond. 

 

alt=""Market Researcher/Senior Market Researcher 

For Digital Marketing MSc graduates who are good with data and have strong consulting skills, a Market Researcher role might be right for them. 

Market researchers analyse and interpret data to track financial, political and social trends. In this career, you will rely on quantitative or qualitative research to conduct thorough research projects and present the findings back to the client. Working in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors, market researchers will design methods of data collection and consult clients or senior management on how to best use the research findings. 

Starting salaries go up to £25,000, but experienced market researchers can earn between £40,000 and £70,000. 

Product Development Management and Brand Management 

For graduates who are more technically inclined, becoming a Product Development Manager is a great option to explore. 

A Product Development Manager oversees product development projects, working with teams to identify new opportunities for developing a marketable product from concept to distribution and then resolving design optimisation and production issues. Product Development Managers can expect to earn an annual salary of over £50,000.  

Starting salaries for product managers and junior product managers range between £25,000 and £40,000. 
 
However, if you enjoy looking at the ‘big picture’ and have a keen commercial awareness combined with good communication skills; another career to look at is a Brand Manager. Brand Managers develop the brand strategy for their organisation and have oversight for keeping branding consistent across advertising, communications and campaigns. 

Brand Managers can earn £44,000 on average, with salaries rising as much as six figures for experienced individuals.
