Dr Israel Davidson

Assistant Professor

Department: Newcastle Business School

Prior to joining NBS, he was the assistant to the chief accountant of Allied Steel and Wire Limited, Cardiff, UK. There, he also conducted his doctoral research on behavioural aspects of budgetary control systems. As a Chartered Management Accountant and researcher, his area of specialism is in accounting control, financial management and performance measurement systems. His current research focus is on the operating working capital and performance management of Nigerian Stock Exchange quoted companies. He has presented academic papers at local and international conferences.

In 2002, he launched and led a new programme that shortly emerged the largest and most successful postgraduate programme in Northumbria University (MSc in Business and Management). Currently, he is responsible for the NBS’ Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme - Full-time, Distance Learning and Collaborative Venture Partnerships.

In addition to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, Israel is an internal examiner, supervisor, and progression panel chair for doctoral programmes. He is equally a member of the School Learning and Teaching Programme Review Sub-Committee and represents the Department of Accounting and Finance on the Faculty of Business and Law Research Sub-committee.

Since 2004, he has been actively involved in a number of consultancy projects in Russia, Ukraine, and Singapore and part of a team of academics responsible for the development and management of collaborative ventures between NBS and academic institutions in China and Singapore.

Israel has consistently won nomination for teaching excellence awards. He received the Student Led Teaching Awards for 2013, 2014 and 2015 from the Northumbria Students’ Union for Best Lecturer. In 2016, He won the prestigious Northumbria University Award for Best Student Support and Programme Leadership.
