Dr Gill Barry

Associate Professor

Department: Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation

Following my undergraduate study, I completed an MSc in Sport and Exercise Science from Teesside University and more recently completed my PhD in Physiotherapy from Teesside University in 2013. Previous to my post at Northumbria I was a Research Associate at the Institute of Neuroscience at Newcastle University and Associate Lecturer in Biomechanics at Sunderland University.

My current research themes are in the measurement of physical activity in older adults and people with neurodegenerative disorders in particular Parkinson’s disease (PD) in a home based setting and the assessing physiological effects of emerging new technologies (exergaming/fitness Apps/wearable technology). I have an interest in virtual reality enviornments and the application in terms of retraining gait and posture.
