TiPACCs - Tipping Points in the Antarctic Climate System

Description

TiPACCs-schematic

TiPACCs (Tipping Points in the Antarctic Climate System) is a large European Research Project involving several European nations.

The UK component of this research project is conducted at the Department of Geography and Environmental Science at Northumbria University.

The TiPACCs project investigates the probability of sudden and large changes in the sea-level contribution from the Antarctic Ice Sheet due to crossings of tipping points in the marginal seas and the grounding lines of the floating ice shelves that fringe the ice sheet.

The project involves numerical and theoretical studies of the dynamics of the Antarctic Ice Sheet and the southern ocean surrounding the ice sheet.

At Northumbria University we develop and use new numerical models describing the flow of the Antarctic Ice Sheet and the southern ocean circulation.

Working on the project at Northumbria University are Christopher Bull, Emily Hill, Jan De RydtAdrian Jenkins and Hilmar Gudmundsson

The TiPACCs project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement no. 820575
