Welcome Week at Northumbria will arguably include some of the biggest events on your first year university calendar, and there’s no doubt it has the potential to be one of the best weeks of your life.

Take a look at some of the main events below designed to welcome you onto campus and make the most of this exciting week becoming part of our #IAMNORTHUMBRIA community!

It's important that you check your timetable to ensure that you're aware of when your Programme Induction sessions are happening during Welcome Week. You may have other Induction activities booked in with University services such as the Library, Graduate Futures or the Students' Union, so look out for these in your timetable.

Events

#IAMNORTHUMBRIA University Welcome Event - Monday 16 January (3.30pm –5pm)
Location: Domain, Northumbria Students' Union, City Campus
This event welcomes new students to the University and the City, with short talks on student support and an introduction to the Students’ Union and Sport. You are then invited to join the Students’ Union get to know you tea party and quiz.

 

#IAMNORTHUMBRIA University Welcome Event - Wednesday 15 February (4pm –5.30pm)
Location: Lecture Theatre 001, CCE1, City Campus

This is a repeat of the talks given in the above welcome event for those who were unable to attend.

 

#IAMNORTHUMBRIA University Welcome Event - Wednesday 18 January (4pm – 5.30pm)
Location: Coach Lane Campus

This event welcomes students to our Coach Lane Campus, with short talks on student support and an introduction to the Students’ Union and Sport.

 

Sports Fair – Wednesday 18 January (12 - 4pm)
Location: Sport Central
Come along to our Sports Fair to find out everything you need to know! Drop in and find out everything you need to know about getting involved in sport and keeping active on campus.

  • Over 30 Sports Clubs from Archery – Water polo!
  • Find out about our Free Sport Week (see below)
  • Ask about Social Sport
  • Enter one of our campus leagues
  • Take a look around our gym
  • Check out the facilities including the pool, sauna and steam room

 

FREE Sport Week - Thursday 19 - Sunday 29 January
Location: Sport Central
Free Sport Week is back! Come along and try some sessions out for free. All sessions can be booked via the NU Sport App! You can download this from your App Store. Already wanting to join a club? Make sure you come to reception to purchase your 50% off membership! 

 

Students' Union Freshers Fair – Wednesday 25 January (11am - 3pm)
Location: Domain, Students' Union
Your chance to start 2023 with a bang and grab some freebies from local and national businesses, join a society and more! Miss it, miss out!

Support Sessions

International Student Enrolment Support Sessions - Wednesday 18 January (10am -12pm) and Friday 20 January (1 - 3pm)

Location: Student Central

You should complete pre-registration online if you haven’t already and upload your visa documentation – this is the easiest way to complete your enrolment. See Understanding the enrolment process for more information. 

If you are having any difficulty and have NOT uploaded your visa documentation in the previous five days, please book onto an Enrolment Support session here. Sessions will include visa verification and Smartcard collection.

 

Digital Induction live online and drop-in sessions - Sessions will run between Monday 16 January and Friday 20 January (10 - 11am)

Location: Online via Blackboard Collaborate

Throughout Welcome Week, our IT team are holding a series of IT inductions hosted online via Blackboard Collaborate.

You can access links to these via the Student IT Induction web page on our website.

At Newcastle City Campus, we have the IT Place based in Student Central, open from 9.30am to 3pm Monday to Friday, no appointment needed.

We are also running a student drop-in at Coach Lane Library in Booth B2 on the throughout the week, where we can help with most IT and TEL (Technology Enhanced Learning) problems (not password resets and account amendments).
