AT7050 - Luxury Brand Management Dissertation

What will I learn on this module?

In this module, you will synthesise the learning from semesters 1 and 2 to create a written dissertation of 15000 words.
The thesis will demonstrate you to recognise the value of luxury brand management within luxury brands and the luxury brand market.

This will evidence an analysis of advanced academic research, debates, and use of theories that demonstrate real world discipline specific value within a luxury brand context. You will take an increasingly autonomous approach to your studies in developing, embedding and clarifying personally developed research theme, theories and experiences that will be realised through a thesis topic that critically, but also potentially practically, engages with a luxury brand issue.

On completion of the dissertation, you will have the skills and abilities to have a career with a luxury brand and make a positive impact in the luxury consumer goods industry. In addition, utilising the CSR knowledge and gained to be able to make purposeful contribution to the world.

How will I learn on this module?

Through studying this module and undertaking the accompanying Personal Development Plan, you will learn through a combination of tutorials, seminars, tutor-guided independent learning and student independent learning. Through tutorial support and studio-based feedback, you will take responsibility for your own creative development and learning for this self-directed project. You will have formative feedback throughout the module, with peer evaluation forming an important activity, giving you an opportunity to reflect upon feedback prior to submission. Your achievement of the module learning outcomes may be demonstrated either through the submission of a reflective dissertation that answers the dissertation title.

The supportive modules from Semester one and two will aid your research activities for this self-led module to identify knowledge, methods and concepts that will provide the grounding for your personal investigated topic.

Collaboration within the University and externally with professional networks, luxury brands and luxury organisations is inherent in the module design, content and delivery and it will enable you to implement your work into the commercial luxury environment. The professional communities and networks you build will enable you to engage with, or return to, the workplace with greater impact.

How will I be supported academically on this module?

You will be supported throughout your dissertation study by tutors who will facilitate discussion in one to one tutorials concerning your chosen subject of inquiry in scheduled timetabled meetings s and directed study sessions. These formal conversations are opportunities to receive immediate feedback on on-going work and to act on that feedback. You will keep a record of this feedback in order to progress your work to enhance your skills and intellectual understanding. You will be part of a community of practice that will provide a topic ‘hub’ for cross-organisational collaboration and peer discussion.

You will be involved in reflective practice, which is inherent to the practice of the School. The Masters programme curriculum has been developed to capitalise on the extensive, active and well-defined research emphasis of the School and channel this expertise into the Masters Programme. Where appropriate, you will be supported in developing relationships with material suppliers and potential companies that may support and have input into your developing proposal.

Further formal academic support will be provided to you via information posted on the eLP system.

Where appropriate, students may also be directed to engage with Study Skills +, or other resources offered through the University Student Support Services such as Dyslexia Support.

The Library is open 24 hours a day and E-Learning Portal houses all your module documents including your timetable. These services can be accessed on a range of devices.

How will I be assessed?

MLO’S 1, 2, 3and 4 will be assessed.

Formative feedback will be given during tutorials when you present on-going work, drafts, and research plans to the tutor for review.

This cumulative formative feedback will help you to prepare for a final submission consisting of:

1. A dissertation of 15,000 words that demonstrates the student’s mastery of and contribution to new knowledge in relation to their subject.

Your submission will be of an original and innovative nature and will demonstrate advanced scholarship in the communication of a personally investigated topic that reaches an analytical conclusion.
Summative feedback will include assessment of your submission against module learning outcomes and assessor’s comments.

Module abstract

This module provides the platform from which you will engage with in-depth reflection, analysis and synthesis based upon your outputs, processes and experiences. Given the stage of your studies, you will take an increasingly autonomous approach to your learning in developing, embedding and clarifying personally developed research themes theories and experiences that will be realised through the production of a dissertation.

A dissertation of 15,000 words representing the culmination and consolidation of your work in the theoretical and industry-informed area of study and its impact in practice, and you will make a critical contribution to new knowledge in relation to your subject.
