VA5005 - Documenting Practice

On this module you will learn through collaborative peer work, through group teaching and mentorship, and through our fortnightly Lecture programme delivered by leading professional artists, writers and curators. These lectures introduce you to a diversity of first-hand professional working contexts and experiences. You will also learn by witnessing and contributing to the questions and answers session at the end of each Lecture, this learning is enhanced by your peer community, you are joined by all undergraduate levels, our postgraduate school and often by PhD students. The teaching and mentoring support you in developing transferable professional skills in areas of organisation, enterprise and group working, developing within a peer-framework your confidence and your ability to effectively communicate, make decisions, negotiate, problem solve and reflect critically on your actions and achievements.

You will be academically supported by the module lead and by an individual academic . You will be supported by an electronic reading list, the Library, and by additional content posted and made available on the ELP. Where appropriate you may also be directed to engage with our Skills Plus or other resources offered through the University Student Support Services such as Dyslexia Support. Guidance tutorials also provide opportunities for students to discuss, in confidence, their academic progress on the programme.

Annotated visual research and spatial design proposal for exhibition with high quality documentary images.

On this module you will learn to establish a wider independent appreciation, knowledge and understanding of the external professional contexts that frame and position the activities and production of the studio. You will learn to extend your understanding of the range of research-led enquiries that professional artists undertake, the breadth of strategies, approaches and methodologies they employ, the diverse social and geographic contexts of their production, and the scope of mediums and materials that they use. You will be academically supported by the module lead and by an individual academic who will introduce and mentor you through devising and planning for the exhibition-making process. You will learn to establish a wider independent appreciation, knowledge and understanding of the external professional contexts that frame and position the activities and production of the studio and spaces beyond the studio.
