Facilities

Facilities within the School of Design

Flexibility is inherent in our building's design. This is essential to support the innovative teaching methods and breadth of activities within the School. Most importantly, with few internal walls and extensive use of internal glazing, the environment in the building gives a feeling of space, openness and the sense of a single community.

Northumbria School of Design has been fitted out with state-of-the-art facilities and the latest in design technology including;

  • Dedicated exhibition gallery
  • Modern presentation rooms with the latest screening facilities
  • Digital photography studio
  • CAD suites
  • Computer suites with latest Adobe software
  • Traditional letterpress and screen printing
  • Industry standard sewing room
  • The latest in computer numerically controlled machinery
  • Extensive 3D prototyping workshops
  • Industry standard textile, printing, knit and garment equipment
  • Haberdashery

Studio Space

We really like to create a collaborative studio culture here at Northumbria and that is why each of our Fashion courses and all year groups have access to large open plan studio spaces.

Machine Room

The machine room is equipped to industry standards with sewing machines, button holers, press and steaming stations and both industrial and portable knit machinery.

Print Room

Our Print Room houses all the kit you will need to design and produce your own fabrics through digitally-enabled textile printing, pattern-making and embroidery.

Mac Lab and Photographic Studio

Alongside our studio space and machine workshops you will have access to a specialist Mac laboratory and photographic studio to fully enhance your creative working.
