What will I learn on this module?
The module will focus on the development of expertise in leading educational practice for a variety of learners, supervisors, assessors and the wider workforce within a professional context. As a student on this module, you will engage in work based inter-professional learning, teaching and development opportunities with a range of learners and educational partners to support and advance professional education in practice. Campus based sessions will critically explore and apply a range of teaching and learning theories and strategies and will be supported by directed, group and e-learning activities. This will include use of Blackboard Ultra the Modules e-Learning Platform (eLP) to access Panopto (lecture capture recordings) and video activities as well as the use of a range of other online learning and teaching technologies and applications as directed by the module team. Peer, tutor, supervisor and/ or mentor formative feedback will support individual development. Summative assessment will require verification of the achievement of educational standards in practice and the submission of a critically reflective account of your development as an educationalist and their impact on teaching and learning in practice.

Designing, planning, implementing and evaluating a range of evidence based learning experiences and curricula for learners, supervisors, assessors, mentors and the wider workforce.

How will I learn on this module?
The module team aim for this to be an interactive, interesting and motivating learning experience, which will help you towards confident and competent leadership of education in your practice area. To support this you will engage in interactive and social learning opportunities through, seminars, peer review, group and individual tutorials as well as e-learning activities via Blackboard Ultra the Modules e-Learning Platform (eLP). Your learning will be supported where possible with access to lecture capture software such as Panopto and video activities as well as utilising of a range of other online learning and teaching technologies and applications as directed by the module team.
Over the course of the module you will work in partnership with your practice supervisor to identify opportunities for you to apply and integrate learning to support your journey towards the development of others and achievement of competence in practice. Your progress will be supported by your supervisor and assessed in practice by your practice supervisor/assessor/mentor.
How will I be supported academically on this module?
You will be allocated an academic tutor to support you in your development and achievement of the module assessment requirements and help you to integrate your knowledge and application of teaching and learning in practice within your formative and summatively assessed work. Submission of a draft plan of your written critical account, through Blackboard Ultra/Turnitin, will allow feedback discussion within a small group tutorial. This will then be followed an individual tutorial to support the development of your learning and teaching experiences log as well offering further direction for your critically reflective account.

Upon completion of this module you will be able to:

1. Critically evaluate the evidence base to develop, implement and critically evaluate learning, teaching and assessment activities for a range of learners at and beyond initial registration.
2. Examine the complexity of factors that impact on learning and professional development and consider strategies to address these.

How will I be assessed?
Formative Assessment: Will include:
• Self-assessment (MLO 4)
• Peer teaching assessments & teaching plans (MLO 1 & 4)
• Peer review of academic writing (MLO 2 & 4).
• Teaching practice (MLO 3 & 4).
• Formative feedback to support academic writing will be offered via electronic submission of Part 1 of the Summative Assessment through Turnitin (MLO 2 & 4).
Summative Assessment: This preparation will then support the summative assessment: processes which include:
1) Part One: Prepare a detailed lesson plan (2000 words) proposing a strategic approach for interprofessional Learning, Teaching and Assessment in practice drawing on your professional experience, pedagogical research and educational theories and their application in practice (MLO 2, 4). Submission and feedback will be undertaken electronically via Blackboard Ultra through a Turnitin portal.
2) Part 2 will require you to demonstrate verification of a range of educational practice via a log of teaching, learning and assessment experiences (MLO 1, 3). Submission and feedback will be undertaken electronically via Blackboard Ultra through a Turnitin portal.
You must be successful in all components to pass this module.

Module abstract
Are you leading practice education for specialist practice or the development of supervisors, assessors and mentors in clinical practice and not sure where to start? This module will help you to develop your knowledge and skills in developing learning and teaching strategies and education programmes to support the development of health professionals. You will engage in authentic, interactive and motivating experiences, which will help you to acquire the knowledge and skills required to lead the development of education in professional practice. You will utilise a range of technologies such as videos and online applications accessed through Blackboard Ultra, the Modules e-Learning Platform (eLP) to support your learning, and work in partnership with your academic tutor, practice supervisor and assessors to help you to begin your education journey with a strong foundation. The module will draw on the tutor’s research expertise in assessing teaching observations and this will support your assessments and feedback. Our module has received excellent feedback from students who have said this has facilitated career development as clinical educators.

Full time Courses starting in 2023 are primarily delivered via on-campus face to face learning but may include elements of online learning.
