Dr Abdus Sobhan

Assistant Professor

Department: Newcastle Business School

I have a very impressive academic performance at all levels of my academic life. I achieved Master of Accounting at University of Melbourne, Australia with position in Dean Honour List in 2008. I also achieved Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. In both MBA and BBA I was within top one percent students in my class and obtained positions in Dean Honour and Dean Merit Lists.

Before starting my PhD at University of Edinburgh, I was an assistant professor at Department of Accounting and Information Systems at University of Dhaka, the best university in Bangladesh. I worked as a lecturer in the same department from 2005-2009. I was also a lecturer at Business School of East-West University, Bangladesh in 2004-2005.

My main research interests include corporate governance reform, motive behind disclosure of compliance with corporate governance code in annual reports, and impact of corporate governance reform on investment and lending decisions of institutional investors and bankers, respectively. In my research I used mixed methods which include semi-structured interview, structured survey and documents. I extensively used E-views and Stata for analysis of data in his research.

I taught a broad range of subjects within accounting at University of Dhaka and at East West University. As a lecturer in Accounting and Financial Management, my teaching modules are in the area of financial accounting and taxation.
