Mark is a Research Fellow in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at Northumbria, and a member of Fuse (The Centre for Translational Research in Public Health). His work lies at the intersection of psychology, sociology and public health, focusing in particular on the promotion of healthy ageing and how health inequalities can be addressed. His PhD in Public Health was based around dementia and dementia care.

Mark is experienced in applying a range of research approaches including: Delphi process, Normative Process Theory, Rapid Realist Review, Scientific Realist evaluation and Thematic Analysis. Mark has experience conducting quantitative analysis using SPSS which was applied during his MSc in Health Psychology to analyse data gathered from cortisol sampling.

Mark is currently engaged on several projects including investigating pain management in Parkinson's as part of a nationwide, longitudinal study and an evaluation of virtual patients (interactive computer simulations of real-life clinical scenarios) used for health and care professions training, education and assessment. Previous research includes a process evaluation of Durham & Darlington's Long COVID care Pathway and the development of standardised Toolkit for planning, provision, and evaluation of Frailty Pathways of Care.
