Angela Macfarlane

Angela is a Senior Lecturer at Northumbria University, with additional responsibility of Partnerships Manager for the law School.  She is a qualified solicitor and prior to joining Northumbria University in 2007 she specialised in commercial, commercial property and employment law in private practice.  (In Angela’s early career she specialised in criminal law and civil actions against the police).  Angela has also supervised employment law firms in the multi award winning Student Law Office.

Highly influential, astute and commercially-aware Angela has strong analytical and communication skills; excellent client and stakeholder relationship expertise; and a proven track record of providing sound legal advice, legal solutions and guidance and training.

Angela is the programme leader of the LLM Employment Law in Practice, which is also now delivered in the Republic of Ireland in a successful collaboration with the Law Society of Ireland.  Angela was a member of the small team from the University that met with the Quality Assurance Agency in Dublin after this unique collaboration was chosen as a case study to highlight good practice in higher education in its Transnational Education Review.  The report resulting from the review and meeting has been published publicly and will be of interest to the whole of the Higher Education sector and can be viewed here

Angela’s research interests are both widespread and in-depth and include equality and diversity, clinical legal education, policing, technology enhanced learning and workplace privacy rights.

Angela also provides continuous professional development training to external clients in employment law.
