Ellie Land

Ellie’s research is interested in representational strategies of animated documentary particularly around ideas of identity and female narratives of lived experience. Her work is concerned with memory, trauma, mental health, and subjective experience. Her practice is informed by 2D animation techniques and digital drawing. She is also interested in investigating power structures in knowledge production and filmmaking practices.

Ellie’s research approach is often collaborative and she works in multidisciplinary teams with researchers in health and medicine with an emphasis on Women’s Health. For example past projects have used narrative testimony to provide interventions to the challenges represented in providing equitable provision for women’s health in the UK and using animated GIFs to disseminate health communication messages for Coronavirus.

Ellie is the co- convenor of the Animation Practice as Research special interest group for the Society for Animation Studies and on the editorial board for Animation Practice, Process and Production (Intellect Press) Ellie is the co - creator of Animateddocumentary.com
