Dr Colin Hamilton

Assistant Professor

CH 2014Colin is currently a Senior Lecturer in Psychology; he has worked in the primary, secondary, further and higher education sectors in the UK.

Within higher education he has been responsible for Biological, Cognitive, Neuropsychology, Individual Differences, Research Design and Statistics courses. He is currently module leader on Cognitive, Working Memory and Individual Differences modules. He has been a Programme Leader on UG Psychology programmes in two universities and over the past decade he has been Programme Leader for the MSc Psychology conversion programme, formerly the Graduate Diploma in Psychology programme.

His research interests are in cognition and in particular short term visual memory and visuospatial working memory. A major emphasis has been on the individual differences associated with visual short term memory, with a focus upon child development, and adult ageing. A recent focus has been upon the individual differences in working memory associated with the broader autism phenotype. Much of his research has been in collaboration with colleagues in St Andrews University, Newcastle University, Durham University, La Sapienza, Rome and Padova, Italy.
