Living Lab

Looking to complete sustainability research that has an impact?  Why not use Northumbria’s campus and activities as the focus of your sustainability studies and research?

The Sustainable Living Lab idea sees our campus and university activities as a Lab for students and staff to use and study to shape your sustainability research whilst also helping to drive forward the sustainability agenda at Northumbria. From testing out different solar PV on our roof spaces, to evidencing how planting changes bee populations, there are multiple opportunities relevant to a very wide array of disciplines.

We welcome suggestions from across the University and even have a number of suggestions of some current challenges which might be of interest.  These can be found on the ‘education’ and ‘research’ sections of the staff sustainability intranet pages.

For more information or to discuss your ideas, contact the Sustainability Manager.

We undertake dozens of Living Lab projects every year but some recent examples of projects completed by our students can be found below.
