Creating or Joining an Alumni Chapter or Network

Did you lead or join a student society at Northumbria? Creating or becoming a member of an Alumni Chapter or network is a way of maintaining or reuniting your society connections with the support of the Alumni Association.

An Alumni Chapter is a group of Northumbria alumni who meet regularly, either in person or online to learn, support, debate, and enhance their knowledge on a shared interest . These groups are likely to be created from student societies or shared student interest groups. All Chapters will evolve at different speeds and to varying extents; from meeting informally to organising a calendar of events, including public lectures, reunion activities, formal networking events . As a central point of contact, the Alumni Association helps support all Alumni Chapter groups and their members.

We’re looking for proactive leaders ready to take on their own Alumni Chapter or to continue to grow their student society into life post University and as part of the Alumni Community.

  • Initial support and advice to establish your Alumni Chapter
  • Contacting your former classmates to notify them of your plans
  • Recognition of activities through alumni publications such as the monthly Alumni e-bulletin
  • Support and promotion of your events and activities through our social channels and webpage
  • Providing you with event space at Northumbria University should you wish to host an event on campus

All Alumni Chapters must be self-financing. Some groups charge an annual membership fee, while others may only charge for the price of ticket or organise free events. An events programme should be varied to engage a diverse range of alumni. It can be useful to hold planning meetings to determine future events to establish alumni volunteers who would like to help organise. The timescales involved when planning your event will vary and it is always advisable to start your event planning as early as possible.

Alumni volunteers and groups should act in the best interests of Northumbria University and each other. The Alumni Association reserves the right to withdraw support to an Alumni Chapter or request for a member to be excluded should activities or comments conflict with the University’s values or, which could potentially adversely affect the reputation of the University.
