Confirmation of your Place

Prepare yourself for results day and find out why you can relax and get on with celebrating if you have been successful in securing your place at Northumbria.

We can't wait to welcome you! This is confirmation of your place at Northumbria University!

No need to call us to confirm your place. Please read on to find out what happens next.

What is confirmation?

Confirmation is where universities make final decisions on the conditional offers made to students earlier in the year for firm or insurance places. It takes place once exam results are published.

We’ll confirm places for BTEC and International Baccalaureate students as soon as we can. For A-level students, this takes place on results day.

You can check the progress of your application using UCAS Track.

If you meet your offer conditions, then your offer will be confirmed. Congratulations! We look forward to meeting you.

You don't need to ring us to confirm your place - we know you have met your offer conditions. We’ll be extremely busy helping other students find a suitable course, so please help us to keep our lines free for these calls.

If Northumbria University is your first/firm choice

If you have chosen Northumbria University as your first, or firm choice, and we give you confirmation of your place, you will receive official notification via UCAS Track, and also a letter confirming your place. It is important that you read this letter carefully and follow any instructions UCAS give you.

We’ll also send you a welcome pack from Northumbria University with all the information you need to get ready to join us in September, including details of how to enrol online and pay your fees. We’re looking forward to meeting you.

Once you have your details, please enrol online as soon as you can so that we can make sure everything is ready for you. It’s really quick and easy to do.

If Northumbria is your second/insurance choice

If you have chosen Northumbria as your second or insurance choice and your results meet your offer conditions, we’ll confirm that you have a place if you’re not accepted by your first choice university. You can see this on UCAS Track.

We won’t contact you directly if your firm choice university confirms your place. But if you don’t get a place at your firm choice, you will automatically become a firm choice at Northumbria. UCAS will write to let you know this and you’ll need to follow any instructions they give you.

We’ll send you a welcome pack from Northumbria University with all the information you need to get ready to join us in September, including details of how to enrol online and pay your fees.

Just Missed?

If you have just missed meeting the conditions of your offer, please use UCAS Track to check the status of your application.

If we have not given you a confirmation of your place on Thursday 13 August, we may not have received all your results or we may be waiting for further information from you.

If you didn’t meet the conditions of our offer and we haven’t given you confirmation of your place, then you can opt to choose another course through UCAS Clearing.

While we may not be able to confirm your original course choice, we may be able to make you an alternative, 'changed course' offer.

If you applied for more than one course and are holding a firm and an insurance offer:

  • You are offered a change by your firm choice university - you must either accept or decline this revised firm offer. If you decline it, then you will either be placed with your insurance choice or, if they reject you, move automatically into UCAS Clearing.
  • You are offered a change by your insurance choice university - you can only accept this if your firm choice rejects your place. You can decline the insurance change. If you are also rejected by the firm choice, you will be automatically entered into UCAS Clearing.
  • You are offered changes by both firm and insurance choices - you can accept either change in UCAS Track, or decline both and move automatically into Clearing.

If you applied for more than one course, but are only holding one offer, then you can either accept the change, or decline it and go into UCAS Clearing automatically.

If you applied to just one choice, then you can either accept the change, or, if you paid the full application fee of £24, decline it and go into UCAS Clearing.

If you originally only applied for one course for the reduced fee of £18, you'll have to pay an additional £6 to apply through clearing. Log on to your UCAS Track and then declining the changed offer. Once you have done that, your Clearing Number will appear in UCAS Track.

If Northumbria University makes you a changed course offer, you have five days to say if you want to accept or decline the place. It’s important that you tell us quickly, because if you are no longer interested in that course, we could offer the place to another student. If you don’t let us know by the deadline period, your application will be declined by UCAS and you’ll lose your offer of a place.
