Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?
I really enjoy Newcastle as a city and Northumbria holds a brilliant reputation.
What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?
I love Newcastle as a city. I like the fact that it is fairly small and everything is close by. I enjoy going on nights out and going to the gym.
What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?
I have been really impressed in the support of the staff at Northumbria and in Newcastle generally everyone is really friendly and welcoming.
Did you find Northumbria University welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?
Yes, I transferred to Northumbria from a different university so was nervous about the transition period but everyone was so welcoming and accommodating. Everyone has been really helpful in terms of showing me around campus and around town and now I feel really comfortable in Newcastle.
What have you enjoyed most about coming to Northumbria University?
Experiencing a new city and making new friends.
Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?
My friends have been really helpful during my time at Northumbria. They have always been there to help or support me and show me the ropes.
Have you joined any sports teams, clubs or been involved in any volunteer projects? Tells us about the highlights?
I am due to do a teaching placement in Thailand for 3 months this summer which is organised through the university and the British Council which is extremely exciting.
What is the best thing about your course?
The options we are offered for our course are all really interesting and it's difficult to decide!
What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?
To make sure I do my readings each week and begin work early to avoid stress.
What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?
In the future I hope to be a primary school teacher and I'm wanting to do a PGCE in teaching when I graduate from Northumbria. I am due to do a prison placement and a tutoring placement as part of my third year on my course which I had to gain through an assignment on why I would be a good candidate for the placements and then pass the interview stage. I think these experiences have set me up for preparation skills for future job opportunities and the placement position will improve my overall confidence and communication skills which will be beneficial when teaching.
Have you worked on any projects with businesses or been on a placement? What were your most memorable experiences?
I am due to do two placements in september and a teaching placement in Thailand over summer.
If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?
I would highly recommend coming to Northumbria its a great university with a wide range of courses and facilities which accommodate to anyone.
How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at Northumbria University, Newcastle (e.g. confidence)?
I feel I have become more independent since coming to Northumbria. I feel I have really matured this year in terms of my university work; I prioritise my work before my social life.

Inspiring, Motivating, Exciting.
