MSc Construction Project Management

Msc Construction Project Management student Nuhu AgbedeWhat undergraduate course did you study and where?

BSc Architecture, at Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria.

Why did you decide to study a Masters?

I chose to study a Masters because I wanted to become a better professional. One with a deeper understanding of the environment, not just from the perspective of an architect but also being able to run and manage construction activities in it.

Why did you choose Northumbria University?  Why did you choose your specific course?

I chose Northumbria because it was one of the few well-ranked institutions that offered a January start programme. This was flexible because I preferred a 15-month duration to a 12-month quick programme. Now I have three months of summer holiday to relax, travel and even work a little.

How would you sum up the difference between undergraduate and postgraduate study?

What I feel makes postgrad study different from undergrad is the level of competence you have to achieve. Meaning you have to study and research more than you did before, so your work can be relevant. The work you do at this level will hopefully make a difference in the world in the future.

What was it like studying at Northumbria?

Well, studying at Northumbria is quite dynamic, the learning platforms are tailored to aiding effective information transfer. There is a mixture of lectures, seminars, e-learning, master classes, conferences, and team projects.

What impressed you most about our academic staff?

The academic staff make themselves available to assist whoever requires assistance. They are also very open to objective feedback.

How accessible do you find our staff?

The staff are quite friendly really. They even welcome phone and Skype calls.

As a postgraduate student, what aspects of university life are important to you?

Facilities, student community, support services. The student community is the most important to me because here you can discover friendships and partnerships that will last a lifetime.

What doors do you think this course will open for you?

On completion of this course I feel I will be more employable internationally. Northumbria graduates have proven over time to be innovative and productive. A good percentage is employed in the first six months after graduation.

Have you changed as a person?

I feel I am still the same person but now studying here at Northumbria Uni I see myself improve daily, process information quicker and come up with better solutions.

How would you describe Northumbria in three words?

Challenging, supportive, innovative.

Do you feel that your course has been a worthwhile investment in your future?

Yes, information is never a waste. What matters is what you make of it.
