Do you want to learn more about how banks operate and what financial advisers do? Do you want to gain the knowledge to have a career with organisations such as Barclays, NatWest, PWC and Ernst & Young? 

This course will provide you with an insight into financial services and contemporary market developments, as well as equipping you with the general theory and analytical skills required to succeed in a highly competitive environment. With 88% of our students in work or further study after six months of graduating, this is a highly relevant course with strong employability potential (Unistats 2014). 

This course will enable you to gain a broad range of experience and expertise in the general business area as well as the more specialist area of financial management through modules such as principles and theories of finance, operations management, marketing, finance, financial markets and institutions and human resource management. You will learn to use our Bloomberg terminals which will enrich your knowledge and understanding of the various factors that influence and shape the contemporary financial services world. 

You can take the opportunity to undertake a year-long paid placement with organisations such as HSBC, Procter & Gamble, IBM and GE or the opportunity to study abroad with our partners. Further to this, in-class guest speakers and field trips to relevant organisations provide you with the opportunity to network as well as to put theory into practice

Who would this Course suit?

Our successful 'Business with ...' programme is for people who are looking for an introduction to the world of business whilst being allowed an opportunity to combine key business subjects with the study of a specialism pathway, in this case Finance Management. This course offers ultimate flexibility for students eager to enter the world of business.

Entry Requirements 2019/20

Standard Entry

GCSE requirement:
A good GCSE profile is expected including Maths and English Language at minimum grade C or equivalent

UCAS Tariff Points
300 UCAS Tariff points (in the region of BBB) including one or more of the following:

GCE and VCE Advanced Level:
From at least 2 GCE/VCE A Levels

Edexcel/BTEC National:
Distinction, Distinction, Merit

Scottish Highers:
BBBBC at Higher level, BBC at Advanced Higher

Irish Highers:
BBBBB

IB Diploma:
30 points

Access Award:
Full Access award, to include a substantial Mathematical component at Level 2/3. Some units to be achieved at Distinction, others at Merit.

Qualification combinations
The University welcomes applications from students studying qualifications from different qualification types - for example A level and a BTEC qualification in combination, and if you are made an offer you will be asked to achieve UCAS Tariff points from all of the qualifications you are studying at level 3 (ie A level equivalent). Should the course you wish to study have a subject specific requirement then you must also meet this requirement, usually from GCE A level

International applicants are also required to have one of the following English language qualifications with grades as shown below.

  • A British Council International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0 (or above) with a minimum score in each component of Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking of 5.5
  • Pearson Academic score of 54 (or above) with a minimum score in each component of Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking of 51
