Cost: £100 (plus VAT) per attendee. Sessions are available free of charge for our partner schools

Our NU STEM team has a wealth of experience in science communication and formal education and the team comprises of public engagement, industry and education specialists. 

This course is delivered by a primary science outreach specialist with seven years’ primary teaching experience and five years’ experience delivering practical science CPD sessions.


Teaching will be lab-based and delivered through group work, activities and discussion. You will have the opportunity to network with colleagues and discuss strategies for sourcing engaging experiments to teach areas of the new curriculum.

A certificate of completion can be provided for participants.


Our dedicated NU STEM lab space is equipped with a suite of industry standard equipment which you can use to explore and devise experiments for different areas of the national curriculum. 

Our interactive learning zone has full WiFi access and cutting-edge teaching resources.


Pedagogical research forms the foundation of this course which will allow you to gain access to the latest in educational thinking whilst drawing on expertise from across the Faculty of Engineering and Environment.


This course will enhance your CV and help you to gain confidence delivering the Working Scientifically strand of the national curriculum and improve outcomes for your pupils. 

Do you find teaching the Working Scientifically strand of the national curriculum challenging? Would you like to learn tools and techniques to help your pupils work scientifically and help you to create exciting and engaging lessons to cover every topic within the new curriculum? This course will examine what is meant by working scientifically and help you understand how you can embed this concept within your teaching. You will have the opportunity to learn strategies for generating new and innovative experiments and gain practical ideas to use in the classroom.
