Dr Angela Rodrigues

Associate Professor

Department: Psychology

Angela joined Northumbria University in 2018 as a Senior Lecturer in Health Psychology within the Department of Psychology. She is also a Visiting Associate Researcher at the Institute of Health & Society, Newcastle University.

Angela completed her PhD at Newcastle University on the systematic development of an intervention to promote sun protection behaviours amongst holidaymakers. Before that, Angela completed a MSc in Public health research at the University of Aberdeen, and a combined BSc/MA in Health Psychology at the University of Minho, Braga, Portugal.

After finishing the PhD, she continued working at Newcastle University as a postdoc, where her primary research role involved the process evaluation of the Diabetes Remission Clinical Trial (DiRECT)and the NHS Diabetes Prevention Program. She is also involved in conducting behavioural analyses of barriers and facilitators for brief interventions for Making Every Contact Count (MECC), smoking and alcohol in collaboration with Public Health England Behavioural Insights Team.

Angela is Editor-in-chief of the European Health Psychologist (official magazine of European Health Psychology Society). She has served on multiple scientific committees, including the European Health Psychology Society (EHPS) Conference (2014), and CREATE (Collaborative REsearch And Training in the EHPS) (2009-2014).

Angela is currently the Programme Leader for the MSc in Health Psychology.

Angela Rodrigues

Angela has a key research interest in the development and evaluation of behaviour change interventions with an overarching focus on public health. Her interests include sun protection interventions, digital health interventions, the Behaviour Change Wheel, and process evaluation of complex interventions.
