Charlotte Ellis joined Northumbria Law School in 2008 from full time practice as a barrister at Keating Chambers, London. She was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2001 having studied law (BA Jurisprudence and BCL (European and Comparative Law)) at Wadham College, Oxford.
During her time at Keating Chambers Charlotte specialised in construction and engineering disputes, and acted in a number of international arbitrations. She also taught on the LLM programme at Queen Mary, University of London and trained as a mediator. Charlotte continued to practise as a Door Tenant of Keating Chambers from her base in the North East until December 2010.
Charlotte teaches on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at Northumbria. She has recently completed a part-time PhD at the University of York, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and supervised by Prof Jenny Steele. Her thesis, on Methodology in Contract Scholarship, contains the first ever interview-based study of decision-making by High Court and Court of Appeal judges in England and Wales.
