Northumbria students, staff and alumni are challenged to row 2,020 miles by Friday 13 March 2020 to raise funds for Sport Relief and the British Inspiration Trust in support of mental health and wellbeing projects.

We want you to join Northumbria University students, staff, alumni and friends of the University to be part of #RowBritannia.

Row Britannia is an inclusive, adaptive sporting challenge by The British Inspiration Trust (BRIT) in support of mental health, fitness and wellbeing and is an opportunity for teams throughout the UK to raise vital funds and awareness. Funds raised will support Sport Relief and the British Inspiration Trust.

As part of this, Northumbria will host a #RowBritannia event at Sport Central at our Newcastle City Campus on Friday 13 March 2020 (7am - 5pm). We invite you to participate by rowing as far as you can and contribute to our target – you can pledge, be sponsored and get rowing to support our target NOW or register to row at Sport Central in March.

Is your company interested in taking on the challenge? Pledge (suggested £400) and register a corporate team to row at Sport Central on 13 March for an hour or you can sponsor a University sport team to row on your company's behalf! The winning team (metres rowed in one hour) will win 12 one-month Sport Central gym memberships for your employees, for more information on sponsoring a team contact Shelley Brunsdon.

Northumbria is committed to support this initiative which resonates with our mission to provide innovative sector-leading mental health and wellbeing services

Not able to make it back to campus? You can still be involved!

We challenge our global alumni to get involved and row in their local gym, sharing photographs with the hashtags ‘#RowBritannia’ and '#RowNorthumbria'. Share your distance rowed at and we’ll feature a selection of posts on our social media throughout the week of Sport Relief.

Everyone who participates in the challenge (staff, students, partners and alumni) and shares their rowing distances at will be entered into a draw to win one year-long Sport Central gym membership or equivalent Amazon voucher for international based alumni.

Together we can make a difference.
