BxNU Institute

Meet our staffThe BxNU Institute aims to invest research capacity into professional contemporary art, performance and curatorial practices. From its base at BALTIC 39, researchers and postgraduate students develop their practice in a supportive, stimulating environment of leading academics, internationally renowned artists and an associated international programme of events.

Other Fine Art Research

Gallery North Gallery North provided an important focus for engagement with practitioners, including funded artists-in-residence and visiting artists, and supported seed and developmental research within the Unit's critical and curatorial practices through exhibitions, seminars and publications.


Conservation research

Fine Art research includes Conservation including into the conservation needs of the Francis Bacon Estate, The National Trust and related conservation science research on inorganic and organic materials including painted works of art and decorations in architectural monuments, and other heritage materials and objects.


Paper Studio Northumbria

Paper Studio Northumbria provides a unique national and international facility for the research of paper in relation to fine art, conservation, archiving and papermaking.
